Lithuanian Biochemical Society

Lithuanian Biochemical Society (LBS) – is an independent, non-profit organisation. The mission is to consolidate biochemists for solving common professional or society-related problems, to promote and support the development of biochemistry and and related fields in Lithuania.

Founded on 26 October, 1960 as a branch of Soviet Federal Biochemical Society. In 1989 LBS became independent and in 1991 joined the European Federation of Biochemical Societies (FEBS) as a Member.

LBS has about 200 members (2008) mostly from Vilnius University, Kaunas Vytautas Magnus University, Kaunas University of Medicine, state research institutes: Institute of Biochemistry, Institute of Biotechnology, Institute of Botany.
